House History
Built nearly two hundred years ago, the oldest section of what is now the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site was originally part of the Buffalo Barracks. It was converted to a single-family private residence on Buffalo’s fashionable Delaware Avenue, before operating as a restaurant, being abandoned, and then saved from demolition by a community-wide effort.
Our Foundation
Since it was established in the late-1960s, the TR Site has been a unique National Park Service location. A cooperative agreement empowers a local board of trustees to direct daily operations and operating costs are shared by the two entities. The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site Foundation is a critical partner in preserving TR’s legacy and the former Wilcox home.
