And you’re in the midst of the excitement, taking in the sights and sounds of the Exposition. Here, you can behold the many attractions, including the electric lights that illuminated the grounds – a technological marvel of the age.

Where History Happened

The museum’s first floor rooms, where the momentous events of September 1901 unfolded, have been meticulously-restored.

TR had at least a dozen meals in the Wilcox dining room during his stay at the home. You can almost see the coffee-loving new president pacing the room as he drinks cup after cup of his favorite beverage . . .

When you walk into the relatively modest library where TR was inaugurated, you might wonder how the room accommodated nearly 50 people to witness the simple ceremony.

In the morning room, a copy of the cross-out-riddled rough draft of TR’s first presidential proclamation bears witness to his struggle to find the perfect words to address a stunned and grieving nation.

Challenges for a New President

What was going through TR’s mind in the time leading up to and just after his inauguration? The audio-visual presentation in our Issues Theater considers some of the most pressing issues the country was facing and provides context for TR’s presidency. You’ll “meet” some of the people who were part of his journey. And you’ll witness the story of a nation in transition.

The Legend Continues

The museum’s second floor is a testament to TR’s enduring legacy. You’ll have the chance to explore these rooms at your own pace; a variety of interactive exhibits offer insight into TR’s presidency, while prompting you to consider how his actions relate to today’s world.

You’ll definitely want to have your photo taken at our “presidential desk,” where you can sign (or veto!) a selection of bills that Congress sent to TR’s actual desk. Then, you can compare your decisions with TR’s!
