Location

The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site is located at 641 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14202 (between North and Allen Streets).

Directions

FROM THE EAST

Take I-90 West toward Buffalo (toll road). Take Exit 51 to merge onto NY-33 West (Kensington Expressway), toward downtown. Exit at Goodell Street and follow signs “To Delaware Ave” (crossing Main Street, veer slightly left onto Edward Street). At the second light, make a right onto Delaware Avenue (northbound). The TR Site will be on the right, approximately 2-2/3 blocks north (across from Walgreens). The parking lot entrance is before the building and marked with a sign.

FROM THE NORTH

Take I-190 South toward Buffalo (toll road). Take Exit 9 for Porter Ave (toward Peace Bridge/Ft Erie Can). Turn left onto Porter Avenue. At the first traffic circle, take the 1st exit and stay on Porter Avenue. At the second traffic circle, continue straight through (half-way around) and emerge on North Street. Continue eastbound for approximately 1/2-mile. Turn right on Delaware Avenue (southbound); the TR Site will be almost directly across the street. The parking lot entrance is just after the building and marked with a sign.

FROM THE SOUTH OR WEST

Take I-90 East (toll road) to Exit 53 (I-190 North, toward Downtown Buffalo/Niagara Falls). Take Exit 6 toward Canalside/Elm Street and keep to the left. Continue on Elm Street; at the end of the street, make a left onto Goodell Street. Follow signs “To Delaware Ave” (crossing Main Street, veer slightly left onto Edward Street). At the second light, make a right onto Delaware Avenue (northbound). The TR Site will be on the right, approximately 2-2/3 blocks north (across from Walgreens). The parking lot entrance is before the building and marked with a sign.

Parking

CARS

There is free, off-street parking available behind the Site. Cars may enter the lot from Delaware Avenue, where the lot entrance is located next to the TR Site’s lawn space and marked with a sign. (There is a Bank of America ATM  located in the same driveway; you do not need to stop there.)

The parking lot is also accessible from Franklin Street, which is one-way northbound. (Franklin Street cannot be accessed from North Street.)

On-street, metered parking is available on Delaware Avenue. Meters are generally in effect 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (unless otherwise posted), Monday through Saturday.

BUSES

It is recommended that buses discharge passengers at 641 Delaware Avenue, in front of the TR Site. Approaching the Site from the south (while heading northbound on Delaware Avenue) will ensure that passengers can disembark safely. A paved walkway connects the street to the Visitor Center front entrance. The front entrance has three stairs, but a stair-free entrance is available to the rear of the building, accessible from a paved walkway to the left (north) side of the Visitor Center building. Buses should NEVER attempt to enter the driveway from Delaware Avenue.

Buses that approach the TR Site from Franklin Street should note that Franklin is a one-way (northbound) street. Parking lot access is between Allen and North and on the left, marked by a National Park Service sign, and located at 550 Franklin Street.  Buses can discharge passengers and park at the head of the lot, behind and parallel to the building, along the sidewalk. This will allow the group to enter on level ground with no steps to enter. However, note that bus drivers frequently report difficulty making the turn into the parking lot from Franklin Street.

CAMPERS/RVs

There is no onsite parking available for large campers or RVs.

Public Transportation

BUS

Metro Bus #11 (Colvin) or #25 (Delaware) stops at the corner of Delaware Avenue and North Street, approximately 300 feet away from the TR Site.

METRO RAIL

The TR Site is approximately 0.3 miles (a 7-minute walk) from the Allen-Medical Campus Station. After exiting the metro station, cross Main Street and walk three blocks west on Allen Street. Make a right on Delaware Avenue; the TR Site will be on the right, just before the intersection with North Street.
