FROM PROTECTING NATIONAL INTERESTS
TO PRESERVING NATIONAL HISTORY:
The Story of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural
National Historic Site
The exhibit explores the changes that have been made to what is now the TR Site over the course of its 170+ year history. The westernmost section of the building was part of the Buffalo Barracks in the 1840s; it later became a private residence; it was then transformed into a noted Buffalo restaurant; and is now a National Historic Site.
Artifacts and images from each era of the building’s history are on display, including a number of collection items that have never before been exhibited. Among them are a mid-19th century military frock coat; White House invitations that were passed down through the Wilcox family; and archaeological material excavated as part of the recent Carriage House project.
This exhibit is included in the regular admission price.
